Over the last two years, I entered the world of politics by running for town council. Although I did not prevail, I followed my goal of always being my authentic self. It is vital for us to be our true selves. My hope is that my run for town council has helped someone else, especially individuals who are young, coming out, and/or struggling with their sexuality.
I am the Interim President, now Interim Chair, of the LGBTQ Bergen County Democratic Caucus. I am happy to announce that the caucus has a growing and thriving membership, approved by-laws, and planning on having elections this June. My focus will remain having LGBTQ+ representation on the local, county, state, and federal levels of government. Representation is crucial but educating and empowering LGBTQ+ issues is also vital to our community.
The mission of the Bergen County LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus is to recruit and empower LGBTQ+ candidates and to support the election of diverse LGBTQ+ representation within all levels of Bergen County local and county government. This caucus will support candidates who will advocate for diversity, embrace inclusion, educate about racial, social and economic justice, and support the funding needed to address the needs of the Bergen County LGBTQ+ community.
The above coincides with my mission for all to be their authentic selves. I’m the Founder/President/CEO of AllThingzAP, a consulting firm specializing in inclusion, diversity, equity, and belonging. As part of the LGBTQ+ community, it is important that we have representation within our workplace and community, and that our community is fully embraced and included.
I’m thankful for the privilege to have been given the last several years to be unapologetically intentional about inclusion, diversity, and equity – and look forward to what is in store for the future.
This will be my last blog for the 2021. I’ll keep everyone posted with upcoming announcements. Finally, please have a very happy and joyous Holiday Season and a gratifying and wonderful New Year. Looking forward to a positive and healthy 2022 for us all.
